How many of you have ever judged an addict? ‘Does he have NO self control?’ That is the question often ask. Unfortunately the problem goes far deeper than you may think. Yes, people have a choice, take a snort of coke, sip on that vodka….but SOMETHING in that person’s life is wrong, and we are just to oblivious to actually take note.

As I teach my children NEVER JUDGE ANOTHER PERSON, you don’t know their history, you don’t know the baggage that drags them down.

This is a rather old article, but I find it still relevant. Johann Hari researched addiction and the results of his findings were quite surprising. He discusses the reasons behind drug addiction, and that is something worth taking note of. So read his article here and you will realise the true reasons behind individuals getting caught in this drug trap is actually far more complex than we thought.

Here follows an excerpt from his article in Huffington Post:

“It is now one hundred years since drugs were first banned — and all through this long century of waging war on drugs, we have been told a story about addiction by our teachers and by our governments. This story is so deeply ingrained in our minds that we take it for granted. It seems obvious. It seems manifestly true. Until I set off three and a half years ago on a 30,000-mile journey for my new book, Chasing The Scream: The First And Last Days of the War on Drugs, to figure out what is really driving the drug war, I believed it too. But what I learned on the road is that almost everything we have been told about addiction is wrong — and there is a very different story waiting for us, if only we are ready to hear it.

If we truly absorb this new story, we will have to change a lot more than the drug war. We will have to change ourselves.” [Hari:2015]

You really need to give his article a read and, perhaps try to find his book:  Chasing The Scream: The First And Last Days of the War on DrugsYou can find it on Amazon, click here.

There is hope for those who are lost in world ruled by drug demons, so read the article and DO NOT JUDGE, SUPPORT THEM, NEVER give up on them and don’t EVER ABANDON THEM as a lost cause!!!!
